Web sites are all too often full of "look at me!" statements.
This is odd because everyone knows that when you type a query into Google (or your favourite engine du jour) you are essentially asking a question. So there is a mismatch here.
What we have to think about when building (and ESPECIALLY writing) for the web is:
"what questions does my web site answer?"
Just as when setting up a business or bringing a new gizmo to the market, you should start by asking:
"what need does this product/service meet? What is the gap or niche I am trying to fill?"
This is where Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO) can help.
So What Does SEO do?
Search Engine Optimisation is the arty science of matching your web site to the search terms people are putting into their browsers.
It is about helping your web site content most clearly convey its message, so the people who are looking for it can find it.
